GENERAL INFORMATION, INSTRUCTIONS AND REMINDER ITEMS

Background Information: Tuskegee Airmen, Incorporated™ is a unique organization dedicated to the preservation of the history of African American Veterans whose service during World War II demonstrated to America that the criteria for responsible citizenship are character and achievement rather than ethnic origin. Although incorporated in Washington, D.C., the organization consists of many chapters and a National Museum at Moton Field, AL. The Greater Philadelphia Tuskegee Airmen Chapter Scholarship Program is located in Philadelphia, PA.

Each year the Greater Philadelphia Chapter Tuskegee Airmen grants scholarship awards to deserving young men and women. Each year the number of available scholarship awards is directly related to scholarship income received. One award of three thousand five hundred dollars ($3,500.00) and five (5) awards of one thousand dollars will be available in 2022. The $3,500.00 and $1000.00 awards are for one year only.

Eligibility Requirements:  Applicants must be students from an accredited college or university, with a GPA of at least three points (3.0) on a four-point scale, and from an underserved community.

Application Procedure:  Application forms and instructions may be obtained from Greater Philadelphia Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. Completed applications must be returned to the specific address indicated on page 1 of this application on or before March 17, 2023. Each applicant must complete the entire application form. The applicant must include a one (1) page essay entitled “The Tuskegee Airmen” which reflects an overview of their history and how their experience has impacted the applicant personally. Additionally, each applicant must submit a one (1) page personal essay containing: a biographical sketch, educational aspirations, and career goals. Essays must be typed, double-spaced with 1-inch margins on 8.5” x 11” paper.

Selection Procedure: Applications for scholarships received by The Greater Philadelphia Chapter Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. are screened, and competitively evaluated by the Greater Philadelphia Chapter Tuskegee Airmen Scholarship Selection Committee. The committee considers academic achievement, extracurricular and community activities, and both essays to competitively rank applicants.

Notification Procedure: All applicants will receive individual notice of final results from the Greater Philadelphia Chapter Tuskegee Airmen Scholarship Chairperson.

Award Payment Limitation: Unless otherwise approved by the Greater Philadelphia Chapter Tuskegee Airmen Scholarship Program, all scholarship awards must be paid within one year from date of selection notification.
