Benjamin 0. Davis Jr.

General Benjamin 0. Davis Jr. (1912-2002) was the son of the United States Army’s first African American general. Benjamin O. Davis Sr., was a U.S. Army officer, and at the time of his son’s birth, he was stationed in Wyoming, serving as a lieutenant with an all-white cavalry unit.

In 1932, he attended the United States Military Academy at West Point. He was the first black cadet in almost 50 years, and the first in the twentieth century. Although Davis was shunned by his classmates, he graduated with an impressive rank of 35th in a class of 276.
